easy riding

 our usual team photo pose

A few friends and I took part in a small bike-a-thon (30km) two weeks ago with the scenic Centennial Park as our backdrop. I am finding that these bike-a-thons are getting shorter and shorter as I age. Just 4 years ago I was doing 200km on a mountain bike tackling some crazy hills in Waterloo. Maybe next year I will push myself and do a longer ride. In any case, this year's ride was fun and relaxing since I actually got to enjoy myself instead of dreading upcoming hills. To top it off, it was all for a good cause (Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada)! A new trail recently opened up in my neighbourhood, so I'm excited to try that out. I need to show my bike more love since I only used it one and a half times this summer. It probably feels pretty neglected, but this summer has just been all sorts of busy. When I get my road bike, I am going to start a Sunday riding club. It'll probably be just Nathan and me so to compensate for the lack of numbers, we'll just have to pretend we're biking hot shots on the road.

This entry has been a little all over the place. I think it's because my brain has also been a little all over the place. I wish I can contain it all in a nice little jar...

more food in trucks

The day after finishing the last of my final exams, Nathan and I ventured out to another Food Truck Festival. The long lines and the burning sun from last time didn't deter us from going again! This time, however, we decided to get to the Distillery District before the festival started (we got there at around 10:30am - half an hour early). We were prepared to wait around until everything started, but were delighted to see that most of the food trucks were already serving food. Our first stop was at a sausage stand where we got ourselves the Currywurst. Next we had a smoked meat slider, a beef brisket taco, a crab cake of sorts, some iced tea, a peameal bacon sandwich, pork neck tacos, king fish ceviche and a mushroom tamale.

nostalgia tastes good

When I was little, my mom would always buy my brother and me snacks from a department store called Marks & Spencer. It wasn't until my cousin's recent trip to London when this little prawn snack sneaked its way back into my life. It's crazy how after two decades, I can still remember what this snack tasted like! Food from my childhood always floods my brain with memories of a much simpler time. Needless to say, my brother and I demolished the two bags in two days.

Other than tasty prawn snacks, life has been quite busy lately. I should be job hunting, but things keep popping up and time just seems to disappear. Maybe a part of me is avoiding the job hunting process because deep down, I am really happy to be funemployed (at least for the moment anyway). I really can't complain about midday yoga and helping my parents pick out the colours and materials for our bathroom renos. Now, if I was only half as dedicated to finding a job, then life would be back in order.

Happy nostalgic snacking everyone!
